Thiruttham for Chrome

Thiruttham for Chrome checks your Tamil in the text box you are already writing in, and shows its suggestions in Chrome's side panel.

How it works

  1. Click into a text box. A small Thiruttham button appears at its corner.
  2. Press the button to check. The fixed rules run in your browser.
  3. The suggestions open in the side panel, one line each with its reason. Press a line to see the word in your text.
  4. Accept or dismiss each suggestion. You can undo an accepted change straight away.

Where it works

  • Gmail, the WordPress and Blogger editors, and most other web text boxes. It stays out of search, sign-in and similar boxes, and you can turn it off for any site.
  • Chrome and other Chromium browsers on a computer. It cannot be installed on a phone; the web editor works there.
  • Google Docs is not supported yet.

What it asks permission for, and why

  • Sign in with Google: so the AI-assisted check can use your account.
  • Side panel: to show the suggestions.
  • Storage: to keep your settings on your device.
  • Running on web pages: so its button can appear in text boxes. Tamil typing converts as you type in your browser and sends nothing. A box's text is sent only when you press Check for an AI-assisted check after signing in.
  • thiruttham.com: so the extension can tell that you are signed in on the website.

Free and Pro

The fixed rule checks are free and unlimited. With an account you get 5 AI-assisted corrections a day, and you can start a 7-day trial of Pro yourself, once, with no payment needed. Pro is ₹299 a month or ₹2,799 a year.

Both the rules and the AI can be wrong. Nothing changes until you accept it, and you can report a wrong correction from its card.
