Doubling after pointing words in Tamil

After some pointing words, such as இந்த, அந்த, அங்கு and இப்படி, a matching consonant is added before a next word that begins with க, ச, த or ப: இந்தக் கதை, அந்தப் பக்கம், இப்படித் தொடங்கினால்.

When it applies

After இந்த and அந்த, when the next word begins with க, ச, த or ப, the matching consonant is added: அந்தப் பக்கம், இந்தக் கதை.
The same happens after pointing words for place, such as அங்கு and இங்கு: அங்குச் செல்லுங்கள், இங்குக் காணலாம்.
The same happens after pointing words for manner, such as அப்படி and இப்படி: அப்படிச் சொன்னார், இப்படித் தொடங்கலாம்.
The same happens after அவ்வகை and இவ்வகை: அவ்வகைச் செய்யுள், இவ்வகைச் செயல்கள்.

Exceptions

Do not apply this rule to every pointing word.
After அது, இது, அவை and இவை the consonant is not doubled: அது சிறிது; இது பெரியது; அவை போயின.
It is also not doubled after அத்தனை, இத்தனை, அவ்வளவு, இவ்வளவு, அவ்வாறு and இவ்வாறு: அத்தனை செடிகள்; இவ்வளவு பேர்; அவ்வாறு பேசினார்.
